Wangari Muta Maathai (1940 – 2011) was awarded with the Nobel peace prize for the environment. She was also the former Kenyan vice minister of environment and she was a Doctor in Biology.
During her first visit to Japan in 2005, She was deeply moved by the philosophy of “MOTTAINAI” The meaning of “MOTTAINAI” is about the careful management of the world’s resources. “MOTTAINAI” can be summarized in 3 words, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R) Maathai proposed spreading “MOTTAINAI” as a worldwide language of environmental protection.
The MOTTAINAI campaign started as a way to spread a lifestyle that doesn’t impose a burden on the global environment, and the creation of an environmentally conscious society is built worldwide. Part of the sales is donated to the foundation by Wangari Muta Maathai the Green Belt Movement which was focusing on reforestation.
